Software Engineer, iOS

San Francisco

About Us:
At the heart of our mission is the belief that every individual, team, and organization should have the power to customize their software to tackle any challenge or solve any problem. While computers are among humanity’s most transformative tools, the ability to create or adapt software remains out of reach for most. At Notion, we’re dedicated to changing that. Through intentional focus, thoughtful design, and meticulous craftsmanship, we’re working to democratize software creation.

Since 2016, we’ve been on this journey alongside incredible partners like Pixar, Mitsubishi, Figma, Plaid, Match Group, and thousands of others. As we continue to grow rapidly, we’re eager to welcome new team members who excel in their fields and share our passion for building a company as diverse and innovative as the global community we serve.

Notion operates as an in-person company, with employees required to work from the office on two Anchor Days (Mondays and Thursdays) and encouraged to spend the majority of their week in the office, including a third day.

About The Role:
Mobile devices have revolutionized personal computing, putting the power of a desktop in the palm of our hands. By empowering people with the tools to create their own solutions, we aim to solve problems wherever they arise. Our goal is to deliver a seamless, intuitive mobile experience, and we’re looking for talented iOS engineers to help bring this vision to life.

What You’ll Achieve:

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and cross-functional partners in product, design, data science, and user research to develop and maintain features for our iOS app.

  • Elevate the performance, reliability, and polish of our iOS app while contributing to the mobile editor within the web stack.

  • Build and refine internal tools with a focus on simplicity and productivity, such as creating scripts to streamline app deployments.

  • Support Notion’s multi-product ecosystem on mobile, including initiatives like launching the first iOS app for Notion Mail.

Skills You’ll Need to Bring:

  • Thoughtful problem-solving: You approach challenges with clarity and precision, breaking down complex issues into manageable solutions. You’re unafraid to seek help when needed.

  • Proven expertise in iOS development: With 6+ years of experience, you’ve built and maintained high-quality iOS apps at scale. You’re proficient in Swift or Objective-C and have hands-on experience with UI, networking, and threading.

  • Adaptability across tech stacks: While iOS is your specialty, you’re open to learning and contributing to our web stack (TypeScript, React).

  • Business-minded pragmatism: You prioritize projects based on their impact, balancing craftsmanship, speed, and business goals.

  • User-centric mindset: You consider the real-world implications of your work and take responsibility for its impact on users’ lives.

  • Technology agnosticism: You view technologies as tools with tradeoffs, staying open to learning and adapting as needed.

  • Empathetic communication: You articulate ideas clearly, whether in writing or in real-time discussions, and approach disagreements with thoughtfulness and a willingness to compromise.

  • Collaborative spirit: You thrive in cross-functional teams, valuing shared goals and the growth of those around you.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience building and publishing your own iOS apps.

  • Familiarity with our tech stack: Swift, SwiftUI, React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Postgres.

  • An appreciation for computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, and Alan Kay.

  • Interests beyond technology, such as art, history, or social sciences.
