Data Scientist, Growth

San Francisco

At Notion, our mission is to empower every individual, team, and company to customize their software to tackle any problem and overcome any challenge. While computers are among our most powerful tools, most people lack the ability to build or modify the software they use daily. At Notion, we’re determined to change this through focus, thoughtful design, and craftsmanship.

Since 2016, we’ve been working toward this vision alongside customers like Pixar, Mitsubishi, Figma, Plaid, Match Group, and thousands of others. Today, we’re growing rapidly and looking for talented individuals who excel in their fields to join us. We’re committed to building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people around the world who use Notion.

Notion operates as an in-person company, requiring employees to come into the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays and Thursdays) and encouraging them to spend the majority of their workweek in the office, including a third day.

About the Role:
Notion’s mission is to help people create tools that enhance their life’s work. The Growth Team focuses on expanding Notion’s reach and impact by making the product more valuable to users, thereby driving business growth. As a Growth Data Scientist, you’ll play a key role in improving the user experience and optimizing our self-serve revenue engine through data analysis and experimentation, working closely with the product team. You’ll help define the team’s roadmap by identifying opportunities, overseeing their execution, and rigorously measuring their impact.

What You’ll Achieve:

  • Use your expertise in statistical inference and experimentation to assess the impact of product changes and guide decision-making.

  • Conduct analyses to uncover opportunities and shape the team’s strategy and roadmap.

  • Collaborate with your team to define key metrics, build foundational datasets, and create dashboards to track progress and inform decisions.

  • Influence the broader company by sharing insights and driving changes in our product and business. (Insights are valuable, but impact is what matters most!)

Skills You’ll Need:

  • Proven experience as a data scientist working closely with product and engineering teams. You’ll leverage this experience to identify where data can make the biggest impact and communicate it effectively.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and a results-driven mindset.

  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one scripting language (Python or R).

  • Expertise in statistical inference and experimentation to deliver actionable recommendations.

  • Experience building predictive models and evaluating their effectiveness.

  • Ability to transform raw data into usable datasets when necessary.

  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, balancing speed and accuracy.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience working on a growth team.

  • Background in fast-growing startups.

  • Experience in a B2B SaaS company.

At Notion, we hire talented and passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds because we believe our team should reflect the global diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our values, and are passionate about making software toolmaking accessible to all, we’d love to hear from you.
