The Developer Platform team at Airtable plays a critical role in ensuring engineers can deliver features efficiently, securely, and reliably. By providing essential infrastructure, tools, and best practices, the team supports modern software development. As the Engineering Manager for this team, you will define the vision and strategy for the developer experience, leading a talented group of platform engineers dedicated to scaling internal systems to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving product suite.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and guide a team of senior and staff engineers to develop robust developer tools, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based infrastructure.
Professional Growth: Conduct performance evaluations, create career development plans, and promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Strategic Vision: Define and execute the roadmap for the developer platform, integrating CI/CD enhancements, build automation, and tooling into a unified strategy.
Innovation: Stay ahead of industry trends by evaluating emerging technologies, frameworks, and best practices to continuously improve the developer experience.
Scalability: Oversee the design and evolution of build and release pipelines to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
Automation: Drive initiatives to automate workflows, identify and resolve flaky tests, and implement quality gates to enhance release velocity and stability.
Collaboration: Work closely with product, infrastructure, and security teams to align priorities and ensure platform initiatives support business objectives.
Communication: Translate technical strategies into clear, actionable plans and measurable outcomes for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
Technical Expertise: 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on developer platforms, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud infrastructure.
Leadership Experience: 2+ years managing high-performing engineering teams, with a proven ability to mentor senior-level engineers.
Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with modern DevOps tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Strategic Thinker: Ability to develop long-term technical strategies that drive productivity across the engineering organization.
Collaborative Approach: Strong interpersonal skills to build trust across teams and balance technical and business priorities.
Data-Oriented: Comfortable using metrics (e.g., build success rates, deployment times, developer satisfaction) to guide decisions and optimize systems.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is based on work location, relevant skills, and experience. The total compensation package includes benefits, restricted stock units, and may include incentive compensation.
For roles based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, New York City, and Los Angeles, the base salary range for this position is:
