Program Summary

Observability engineering is the discipline of making a running system explainable. This program builds a practical foundation in that work: how services are instrumented with OpenTelemetry, how metrics, logs and traces differ and when each answers the question, how a telemetry pipeline is run at volume without bankrupting the team, and how dashboards and alerts are built so an engineer at 3am can find the fault quickly.

Alongside the technical modules, the program includes hands-on labs and a virtual internship. You will instrument a service end to end, stand up Prometheus and Grafana, ship logs through an ELK pipeline, control metric cardinality and cost, and finish with project work you can show to an employer.

Your Educational Path

Add OpenTelemetry to a running service and emit metrics, logs and traces that are correlated, so one request can be followed across every hop.

Write the queries and recording rules behind a real dashboard, and learn why a panel that looks right can still be measuring the wrong thing.

Take a telemetry pipeline that is too expensive, find the labels causing it, and cut the cost without losing the signal you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What career opportunities does this course provide?

Observability Engineer, Monitoring Engineer and Platform Engineer roles at employers such as Accenture Federal, PenFed and American Electric Power.

How does this differ from the AIOps and SRE programs?

This one builds the telemetry platform. AIOps applies analytics on top of it, and SRE uses it to manage reliability as a budget.

Do I need a production system to practise on?

No. Labs run a small service estate locally in Docker with faults injected for you.

Is this course suitable for beginners?

It suits learners with some Linux and scripting. No monitoring background is needed.

Can I take this course while working full-time?

Yes. It requires 10-12 hours per week and sessions are recorded.
