Program Summary

SCADA engineering is the discipline of supervising and controlling distributed physical assets from a control room. This program builds a practical foundation in that work: how RTUs and PLCs are polled, how a tag database is structured, how operator screens and alarms are designed so they help rather than overwhelm, and how historians keep the record a utility is required to hold.

Alongside the technical modules, the program includes hands-on labs and a virtual internship. You will build a tag database, poll simulated field devices over Modbus and DNP3, design operator screens and a rational alarm scheme, configure a historian, and finish with project work you can show to an employer.

Your Educational Path

Bring simulated RTUs onto a SCADA server over Modbus and DNP3, and build a tag database that will not collapse when the asset count doubles.

Design control room screens and a rational alarm scheme, so a real event stands out instead of drowning in nuisance alarms.

Configure a historian for long-term trending and set up failover, then prove the system keeps running when the primary server dies.
